The “Ultimate Hi-Stepper” and “Legendary Founder of Hinds dance line” were the headlines in the Clarion Ledger on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. No truer words were spoken about our beloved Mrs. Anna Bee who went to be with her Heavenly Father on that day. Her son stated “We will certainly miss her, she was a sweetie” and that she was. Throughout the next few days these and other adjectives were heard such as classy, special, iconic, grace and charm. Those days brought about memories we all have from our days as a Hinds Hi-Stepper and the impact she had on so many lives. On that day, the dynamics of our annual homecoming performance changed. On that day all of our lives changed. I have pondered our times together as alumni over the last 20 plus years, the lasting friendships we have all made as “sisters” from being a part of this organization and the countless performances we are still able to bring showing our love for the “ultimate Hi-Stepper”. I shared this statement with you a few years ago and find it fitting to do so again….. Mrs. Bee stated “Girls (we are all her girls), you are Homecoming to me! Without your presence, the day has little significance. The ‘tie that binds us” and “the memories we share” are the strongest bonds of love in the alumni association. Let’s always “keep in touch”! Special love to each one of you, Mrs. Bee”. So it is, in Mrs. Bee’s memory, I let you know of our annual Homecoming Performance. If you have not ever danced with us, if you have not danced with us in a long time, if you have not danced with us in the last few years….. NOW is the time to come dance with us, for Mrs. Bee!! My hope is to really show our love by having the longest line on that field like never before!! Our practice sessions will begin on Sunday, September 8 at 2:00 pm in Bee Hall. The Hinds Homecoming football game is on Thursday, October 17, 2013. This will give us six weeks of consecutive practices, no interruptions. I encourage you to plan to attend them all so that we are prepared to kick high and proud on that Thursday night. The practices will continue at 2:00 pm each Sunday as follows: September 15 September 22 September 29 October 6 October 13 Field Rehearsal on Wednesday, October 16 at 5:00 pm Homecoming game Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 pm As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. We are awarding a scholarship each year to a second year Hi-Stepper who exemplifies the Hi-Stepper qualities.
