The Unchanging God that Changes things? We have all heard the phrase God does not change – it’s not just a phrase but a very true fact: God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. (Numbers 23:19 NIV) God is like the river that flows through the Grand Canyon, it is constantly flowing and it never stops. However the land around the river is always changing, and God keeps creating new ways for the water to flow. That’s why the river will bend and turn, because the water will react to the land around it, and in the process it creates new landscapes and beauty. Once when I was on a nature hike with the school I asked the teacher why certain plants were located by the stream and others were way down the path? Why aren’t they all together? She explained that sometimes storms come and they can create so much water that it will rip plants apart and then they will be transplanted down river. It’s nature’s way of changing the landscape. In fact water, wind, animals, and even humans, are constantly changing the landscape by simply living in it. God doesn’t change. He is the same yesterday and today. However God is always creating new things and new life. "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Is. 43:18-19 Embrace the changes that God brings, understanding that His character never changes, and His love for you never changes as well.
