The Under 18 Girls Hockey Team has been selected to compete at the Winter Games! Congratulations to the team! We are so proud of our daughter, Tana, for trying out for the team despite the fact that her name is not on the roster. We still congratulate her on all the hard work, time, effort, dedication and sportsmanship that she put into her favourite sport. In our eyes she has achieved more than being on a team. She put on hockey skates for the first time in Grade 6, played her first tournament that year at Gros Morne Arena as she struggled to skate from one end of the arena to the other. But she didnt give up! After 5 years of hockey she has made several teams and even represented our province at the Atlantic Cup; and received the most sportsmanship for that tournament. When she was given the opportunity to attend POE in Gander last week she did not hesitate. She said, I know I probably wont make the team but Ill get to play hockey for a few days anyway. She went to camp (for the fourth year in a row) and gave it her best amidst some who skated faster, some who skated slower; some who puck-handled better and some who missed the pass. Knowing each day that she was giving her best but she might not make it. In her final game we watched our daughter play her heart out; she skated really well, made some great plays and cheered on her team. At camps and tournaments, she has made lots of friends, had lots of laughs, spent lots of our money (lol) and challenged herself. At the Winter Games Tana and our family will be cheering for the team. We would like to wish all girls, coaches, trainers and parents the best of luck! Tana wont be on that bench in person, but she will always be our champion. In a world where so many things has come really easy for her, we are extremely proud of the challenges that she has chosen to face. I hope that she is and always will be a true role model for others... making the team (or reaching a goal)is only a small part of the success; its the journey along the way and ones determination that defines a true champion!!! Congratulations Tana! We wish you the best of luck and infinite happiness today and always! Be sure to have fun in all your future hockey games and continue to embrace obstacles in life; and love every moment of the journey!!! Love Mom, Dad and Riley
