The Union Pacific operated an excursion train behind the E-Units to Abilene KS on October 8 1994, in beautiful fall weather. I was told that the occasion was in celebration of President Eisenhowers 100th birthday, but Im not sure about that. I caught the westbound train at Manhattan, followed it through Fort Riley to Abilene where the passengers got off. The train went to Solomon, turned on the Wye there and returned to Abilene. As a bit of a bonus, on the way home I caught a Cotton Belt SD45 eastbound on the former MoPac line at Elmo.
