The United Nations has established March 25th as the International Day to Remember the Victims of Slavery. The 2014 theme is Victory over Slavery: Haiti and Beyond. The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization - Transatlantic Slave Trade, Florida Center observed March 23rd by highlighting Haitis freedom with Dr. Paul Ortiz, by viewing the Kongo Across the Waters exhibition at the Harn Museum of Art, by exploring the Gullah Geechee culture with Dr. Saundra Morene with a special performance by Ms. Agnolia Gay. Ms. Elaine Sponholtz, doctoral student, discussed Floridas Anna Kingsleys Plantation and Mrs. Bertha Lee, genealogist, closed the program with historical awareness. Miss Skylar Napier, 11 years old received the TST book award.
