The United Nations invites Member States, international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to observe the International Day of Happiness in an appropriate manner, including through education and public awareness-raising activities. On March 20th people across the globe will celebrate the International Day of Happiness! Some may hear about the day and lump it into the happiness buzz that emanates from advertisements, blogs, books, magazine ads and talk shows that promote the secrets to happiness. However, the event grew from the UN Resolution on Happiness and Wellbeing – a resolution that was endorsed unanimously by UN member states. Beyond the pop culture, happiness research has attained sufficient credibility for many governments to acknowledge that happiness and wellbeing should be considered in the formulation of national policies. ~Catherine OBrien, PhD, Associate Professor, Education, Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia, Canada un.org/en/events/happinessday/
