The United States Supreme Court unanimously holds that searches of the cellular telephone and personal electronics of a person already under arrest will almost always require a warrant, in a very strongly worded ruling about the value of privacy protection as applied to new technology. In so doing, the Court thoroughly rejected as ridiculous the argument that searching the contents of an electronic device was fairly comparable to searching the inside of a pack of cigarettes.
