The United States imprisons 2.2 million citizens, the highest incarceration rate in the world, by far. Now, for our 2014 season, we are introducing public dialogue around issues of crime, justice, and the changing face of our criminal justice system. We kicked off our spring season this past Friday with two new exhibits - The Big Graph, a massive sculpture illustrating incarceration rates over 120 years, and Other Absences, an artist installation depicting murder victims whose perpetrators served time at Eastern State. Together, these programming additions will support complex conversations about the American prison system today - its benefits, its failures, and how we, as citizens, hope it will continue to change. Come see these exhibits for yourself, and please let us know what you think. The Big Graph and Other Absences are available every day 10 am – 5 pm, included with admission.
