The United States is the only country in the world that celebrates Veterans day. Armistice Day was the days origin. At the end of WW1, on November 11th, 1918 the embattled and war weary countries signed a peace agreement. The day was remembered every 11th of November thereafter. Every year after the signing, Armistice Day was a day to mourn the dead of war. A day to remember what we lost and how we, as a western world, would strive for peace in its wake. It was not a day to celebrate the military with parades and flag waving.
