(Thanks to the way Facebook has reconfigured things, it really helps out when you do.) Now back to some astrophotography other than star trails… Here, the horizontal spring Milky Way rises over Cathedral Rock at Red Rock Crossing in Sedona. It was a moonless night, so in order to get enough light on Cathedral Rock, I had to two blend two exposures for this shot. Not such an easy blend because of all of those freaking tree branches! I didn’t want to push the foreground too much because I was trying to avoid too much noise, so I left it a little on the under exposed side, but I think it came out pretty well. The real test will be how it holds up in some test prints. However, the hardest part of this shot was not the developing and blending. It was having to deal with two dogs in the dark while trying to take long exposures with your tripod half in Oak Creak! Needless to say, there were a number of exposures that didn’t exactly finish because for some reason the tripod got nudged (including one time when I caught a falling tripod seconds before my camera ended up in the creak… lol) Anyway, I did have a great time shooting and putting together this shot – the challenges only make it more fun. I hope you enjoy!
