The University of the South Pacific Continuing and Community Education- Basic Mathematics Course Background: This course will be of great benefit to those who did not successfully complete their High School Education and would like to continue with it for the purpose of gaining employment skills. This course can be also be used as a bridging course into higher level of study programs such as Preliminary Mathematics (MAP11) with the USP academic program. This is necessary for anyone considering a job in the fields of Education, Agriculture, Marine, and other Social Science programs. Learning Outcomes: At the end of the 6 weeks course participants should be able to: • Convert the measurements of length, area, volume and weight from one unit to another • Calculate areas of surface and volumes • Relate Fractions, Decimals, Percentages and Ratios • Explain Mathematical Relationships and Functions and solve simple equations Content: Module 1: Conversion of units Module 2: Fractions, Decimals.
