The Update on Miss Rebekah: The Good News: we are praising God - TopicsExpress

The Update on Miss Rebekah: The Good News: we are praising God because Rebekahs bloody stool(s) - she had a second one this morning - are NOT believed to be caused by NEC (infection/dead intestines), Intussusception (telescoping of one piece of intestine into another) or vovulus (malrotation of bowel.) All of these conditions are VERY serious and require immediate treatment/surgery. So, thank you, Lord, that this is NOT believed to be what Rebekah has. She has normal labs, there were no changes in her labs overnight, her xray this morning is normal and not questionable like it was last night, and her blood counts and white blood cell counts are normal and unchanged from overnight. The Other Good News: we are praising God because Rebekahs Thrombocytopenia (low platelets) is GONE! Her platelets have returned to normal ranges. The blast cells are also GONE from her blood count...therefore, we can consider that she has resolved the TAM (Temporary Abnormal Myelopoeisis.) Can you sing hallelujah!?! The Other News: (not necessarily bad)...but not what we wanted, either: Because the other things that can cause blood in her stool are related to what shes eating, we are temporarily trying a special formula with easy to digest proteins. We would prefer that Rebekah be on my breast milk, but we cannot have blood in her stool either! Therefore, we have stopped breast milk until we determine if the bleeding ceases when we use the special formula with the small proteins. This will likely be a week to two weeks. So our new plan is to try to discharge some time next week, watching Rebekah for any signs of blood in the stool. We will also do her repeat echocardiogram and labs for her heart and lung function to ensure all has resolved regarding the pulmonary hypertension she had which caused her to have to come to Childrens in the first place. Again, we will slow down and trust God with our daughter, knowing that we do not want to discharge from the hospital prematurely. I was able to feed Rebekah her first meal of the special formula around three oclock and she tolerated it well for the most part, with only a small spit up and some subsequent reflux (she always has reflux because of the NG tube, so this is not new.) Thank you for your prayers, for continuing to pray, for asking the Lord with us to show us the cause of this blood in her stool so that we can properly resolve it without undue stress upon her or me as a breastfeeding Mama...we thank you for walking this journey with us!
