The Utah Poverty Partnership (UPP) unites several advocacy & community groups under one umbrella as they work on a common goal of reducing poverty in our state. Tonight UPP and Crossroads Urban Center hosted a BBQ for the community. More than 300 people attended. I appreciated the opportunity to discuss ways to combat poverty with tireless advocates, fellow candidates and community members. Over the years, this group has been instrumental in 1) simplifying the process for applying for Food Stamps benefits, 2) preserving funding for Medicaid services, and 3) opposing cuts to bus service to low income neighborhoods.
