The Value of Water: A Compendium of Essays by Smart CEOs: Businesses compete for access to water and must continually adapt to its availability, quality, and access. We’ve seen stories in the media about the water shortage difficulties being experienced in the west, the contamination of sources of supply such as happened in West Virginia or water quality issues as occurred in Toledo, Ohio. CEOs, other senior water executives, and other leaders are at the helm of this evolving business dynamic and have written narratives that can change our understanding of the value of water from a business perspective. The originator and executive producer of the book project, Dr. Donna Vincent Roa, in partnership with the Value of Water Coalition and the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA), created the book The Value of Water: A Compendium of Essays by Smart CEOs expressly to feature the thinking of industry leaders about the value of water and its relationship to brand, reputation, business continuity, economic success, public health, and more. The Regional Water Authority was chosen to be part of the book with our essay titled: Navigating Through Financial Challenges: Strategies, Solutions and Leading Practices. Connecticut Water Company and Aquarion Water Company also have essays included in the book as does Aqua America and the American Water Company. This book documents insights of CEOs, the senior leader of water utilities and associations on the value of water, probes complex issues, informs the conversation about water’s future for business and the perceived value of water, explores how the value of water leadership has resulted in improved business performance, shows that “business as usual” exploitation of our water resources needs to change, and shares industry best practices, lessons learned, and calls to action.
