The Victoria Grizzlies are looking forward to giving back to our community. PRESS RELEASE: Langford Clean Up Day Local agencies are doing their part to control the hot spots in Langford by joining together for one day to change the look of the community. Langford Cleanup day is a collaborative effort by City of Langford Bylaw Enforcement, BC Hydro, the Victoria Grizzlies and West Shore RCMP, sponsored and supported by West Shore Town Centre and Cineplex Odeon West Shore. Langford Cleanup Day will consist of approximately 30-40 volunteers and a variety of employees from the participating agencies, all of whom will focus of their attention on plot of land on the corner of Jacklin Rd and Langford Parkway, just behind the Cineplex Odeon Theater. Volunteers will be picking up garbage, trimming and eradicating some vegetation and painting over graffiti. The West Shore RCMP in partnership with Langford By-Laws noticed a spike in calls in and around the vacant property BC Hydro property. The RCMP and Langford By-Laws worked in partnership to complete a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) review, to determine what some of the contributing factors were within this area. The CPTED review identified areas of concern which would contribute to people using the area as a transition route between businesses and schools and as a place to loiter; and in some circumstances commit criminal offences. After the CPTED review and in speaking with other agencies within the community, Langford Cleanup Day was created. This is a proactive approach to dealing with certain areas in our community which need extra attention. This is an encouraging community building project which encompasses many different agencies and will in turn; create great partnerships for future projects. The City of Langfords Mayor and Council have endorsed this as a worthwhile project, noting that it pulls many of our local agencies and our youth together in what will prove to be a tremendous effort at redefining a small but recently troublesome pocket of our community. CPTED reviews are available for residents and business owners of the West Shore area. For more information on what CPTED can do for you, please contact the West Shore RCMP Community Policing Section at (250)474-2264. We would sincerely like to thank our partners and supporters, who have helped ensure the success of this event; Langford Bylaw Enforcement BC Hydro Victoria Grizzlies Hockey Club Odeon Cinemas West Shore West Shore Town Centre
