The Virus is spreading. From Ferguson to Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Oakland. I just heard a newscaster saying A night of Anarchy has spread from Americas Heartland, and I have to shake my head with sadness...because it is true. Im going to refuse to buy into the hype though. Sure, there are thousands of images that I could look at and focus on. And it would be easy to do so. But I refuse to give in tonight. Instead of seeing the burning buildings, see the dozens of firefighters and multiple trucks, from multiple agencies, fighting blazing infernos in the freezing cold. Do any of you have any idea the steel in your veins it takes to pour thousands of gallons of freezing cold water on a fire in freezing temperatures? Instead of keeping track of the number of shots with the newscasters, instead see the police officers standing in their line, not breaking ranks. Do any of you have any idea how hard it is to stand still when people are firing bullets at you? Instead of seeing the morons running out with armloads of items that dont belong to them, see instead the line of civilians holding hands in front of that beauty supply place, trying to keep looters out. Do any of us know how hard it is to stare in the face of dozens of people intent on damage, to protect something that isnt even yours? Instead of seeing tear gas and screaming Police brutality, instead see images of police officers encircling firefighters to keep rioters from hurting them. Those firefighters are facing the fire, their backs to danger. But not one of them turns around--they know that those officers will give their lives to protect them. When was the last time any of us put our very life on the line to keep someone else safe? Tonight, a vast majority of Americans are disgusted by the actions of a few. And a few un-Americans are using a tragic situation for personal gain and inappropriate behavior. When the dust clears and the smoke settles, Ill be focusing on the heroes of tonight and what they did, and giving no second thoughts at all to NOT ONLY the idiots who engaged in this behavior, but Ill give no second thought to whatever cause they feel they advanced. Once again, our men and women in service have proven their merit, their value and their integrity. And even though its early and the night appears to be long ahead of them, I know that those heroes will continue to protect and serve. And the message to those pathetic few that seek to destroy: Enjoy your temper tantrum. At the end of the day, those that seek justice, love mercy and desire peace outnumber you, and will not be intimidated.
