The Voice continues to be a hit for NBC, while American Idol - TopicsExpress

The Voice continues to be a hit for NBC, while American Idol ratings are falling. But even Voice coach Adam Levine admits that his show hasnt come close to being the cultural juggernaut that Idol has been for the past decade or so. Asked by Rolling Stone magazine if hes been surprised at the decline of American Idol, Adam replies, Idol has to be satisfied with what theyve accomplished. The Voice is very successful, but its got a ways to go if it wants to have as profound an impact as Idol. Im not going to lie to you: I think there are problems. Among those problems, says Adam, is the failure of the shows winners to become multi-platinum recording stars. Millions of people watch the show every week and fall in love with a singer, then you don’t hear much from them, he tells Rolling Stone. We haven’t had a breakout success, like Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. While the new season of The Voice will start taping later this summer, Adam right now is focused on promoting his big-screen movie debut, Begin Again, which opens in New York and Los Angeles on June 27, and nationwide on July 2. And, of course, he also is promoting Maps, Maroon 5s new single, from their upcoming album V.
