The WICUDA USA 2014 Convention is now gone. This convention has been described by analysts as the grandmother of all conventions. This convention registered the highest number of delegates and raised the highest amount of money since the creation of WICUDA USA more than 12 years ago. It was unique in the sense that delegates started arriving in town a week before the event. The convention began with a cultural evening on Friday 07/04/2014. There was the powerful display of our rich cultural heritage. The Njuh, the mndong and the nfuh were in full display. The hall was beautifully decorated with cultural and traditional artifacts from the Mbumland. Welcoming delegates the President of the host chapter Mr George Tanyi declared that DC was ready to offer the best for Wimbum land. He expressed joy and satisfaction for the wonderful job the men and women of DC have done in readiness for the convention. “It is our joy to have you in town as guests of honor” Tanyi said. On his part the president of WICUDA USA Mr Oliver Tangiri thanked delegates for sacrificing time and resources to make the Mbumland a place to be. He declared that WICUDA USA has only one political party, the” Do What is Right Party”. He announced to thunderous applause the presence in the hall of His Majesty Fon Banabas Mbunwe II of Mbot and Honorable Cyprian Awudu Mbaya Member of Parliament and Questor at the National Assembly of Cameroon.” We have come from all corners of the United States and beyond to make our homeland a place to be” Mr. Tangiri continued. The West Bowie hall was full to capacity with Mbum elements from all over the United States, Canada, Europe and Cameroon in attendance. It was a nigh full of cultural flavor and flamboyance. There was singing, dancing, winning, and fun. The Royal We Royalty was in full display at the convention. His Royal Majesty the Fon of Mbot was the guest of honor who had flown in from Cameroon. The Fons of Kesu (Menchum) and the Fon of Bamukubit (Ngohketungia) were on hand to grace the occasion. Ya’ah Dr Enaka Yembe displayed great talents in handling the microphone as moderator.” I have come to collect your money because I want my homeland to be a place to be” Ya’ah Enaka introduced herself. Ya’ah Patience Tamfu’s fund raising ability was openly manifested. She and her guests bought over three tables at five hundred dollars each. Conspicuously present throughout the convention was the great and indefatigable Mafor Edwan Fon. The ever present and no nonsense US North West Council and its Chairperson were in the house. It was an evening full of royalty. Enters New England The New England Chapter of WICUDA USA stole the show. They came in their numbers. Their children, men and women all answered present. Theirs was a spectacular show of strength and the pride of belonging. The convention was thrilled with the Mbaya danced performed by the New England kids. The emergence of Edith Bah allias “Maya Koo-amgir” was noticeable. Her intonation of the glorious Wimbum songs reminiscent of the Nso tradition added flavor to the rich Wimbum culture. The Njuh delegation was championed by the Great MS Yangsi. Even though, the Njuh did not perform at the gala due to insufficient space, memories are still fresh of the talented skill of Njuh dancers from New England. Ta-Nformi Ndi Manjong mounted the secret service desk ensuring that royalty was protected at all times. He also secretly guarded the “Nya- Nfuh” in order to ensure that no woman cast an eye on it. The Wimbum Idols Jayden Jato emerged from the convention as a Wimbum idol. His charming voice compared only to that of a nightingale was amazingly great. Jayden grasped the microphone, paused for five seconds, greeted the delegates and then invited those who could sing to join him sing in Limbum. His courageous and singing ability thrilled the delegates and moved hundreds of on-lookers from their seats. Another idol Mr. Emmanuel Nformi a delegate from New York competed with Jayden. He was, nonetheless, beaten pants down by the young rising star. However, Emmanuel Nformi was to find solace somewhere else. He surprised MS Prudencia Tanto allias “Mama G”, MS Yangsi and MS Koni by the manner in which he danced and sang Njuh. No man has ever done so in the history of Wimbum. His singing, dancing and even drum playing style marveled many and drew every woman onto the floor. He handled the “Kwakwar” excellently and shock his shoulder blades with the amazing greatness of a rising talent. The Key Note Speakers This year’s convention was graced with two guest speakers from Cameroon. Honorable Cyprain Awudu Mbaya and his Majesty the Fon of Mbot the the Warr Clan Head. Speaking at the convention Honorable Cyprain Awudu Mbaya thanked WICUDA USA for honoring him with the invitation. He condemned in very strong terms those who seek to divide the Wimbum land “I am prepared to sacrifice my life in order to maintain the unity of our land” Mbaya said. He chastised some of the Fons whom he described as beggars. Many, however, questioned how much support the elites give to their respective Fondoms at home. “Some of them do not even visit their palaces when they go home” one of the delegates concluded. Enters the Gala and Fund Raising The hall was jammed to capacity. Many who came did not have space to sit or park their cars. This heavy turnout took the organizers unaware. Many who came to donate left with their donations as there was no space for them. The Njuh from DC and New England Chapters did not perform during the gala due to lack of sufficient dancing space on the floor. These short comings notwithstanding, the convention raised the highest amount of money ever. An estimated sum of over $31000.00 has been raised including pledges.
