The WISDOM of JOHN BERGER, on the subject of CAPITALISM: From his book WAYS of SEEING. Publicity exerts an enormous influence and is a political phenomenon of great importance. But its offer is as narrow as its references are wide. It recognizes nothing except the power to acquire. All other human faculties or needs are made subsidiary to this power. All hopes are gathered together, made homogeneous, simplified, so that they become the intense yet vague, magical yet repeatable promise offered in every purchase. No other kind of hope or satisfaction or pleasure can any longer be envisioned within the culture of Capitalism. Publicity is the life of this culture - in so far as without publicity capitalism could not survive - and at the same time publicity is its dream. Capitalism survives by forcing the majority, whom it exploits, to define their own interests as narrowly as possible. This was once achieved by extensive deprivation. Today in the developed countries it is being achieved by imposing a false standard of what is and is not desirable. OR as I have articulated much the same thing, that Ummedy Nine Inch HD Smart TV now prominently to be seen in Every American Living Room if not every room in the house, is indeed the BIG BROTHER that Orwell warned us about the coming of. It sits there ready to Dictate to us 24 hours a day not only What we should want to Buy but What we should believe a Good Life to be or HOW we should THINK! Again the primary problem of America today is that we are NOT very well educated as we would like to egotistically believe but instead one more once, we have the LOWEST RATED Public education system in the Developed Western World and this is by Design to keep the public as Dumb and Dumber as we know it to be today much to the DISGUST and FEAR for that matter of us more well educated or enlightened Liberals or Progressives, the graduates of our public Ed system are considered by the rest of the more enlightened nations abroad as Educated IDIOTS by which is meant that our primary focus is the attainment of Jobs rather than Enlightenment the latter being the Most Profound of All reasons for committing themselves to extensive University level education. Again I went through this Shit with my own ignorant Racist Bigot but Typical Middle Class family who had bought this Propaganda Hook Line and Sinker as they say, one of the Stupidest things one of my Uncles, a Republican RE Broker who prided himself on being awarded the title Mr. Multiple Listings, Hoo Ha, had to say in an effort to put me down for having chosen to be an ARTIST was in relation to the fact as to how I attended and graduated College as a Serious Student of Psychology (Philosophy and Literature Minors) but then did not follow up on that but instead went on with my passionate involvement with Jazz (Art) that as he related, Your father should never give you another dime cause it would only be Good Money after Bad. AH HA HA HOO HEE, this Idiot being a typical Middle Class American was again as I have related earlier of the belief that Education is ONLY for the purpose of getting a JOB when again this is the most pedestrian and ignorant understanding of Higher Education that is ideally pursued to become an ENLIGHTENED HUMAN BEING!!!!
