The Washington County Board of Directors met last night and heard - TopicsExpress

The Washington County Board of Directors met last night and heard from several concerned citizens about some personnel issues, some calling in a change of administration and personnel. There were approximately 75 people in attendance to support nurses Jill Biermann and Elaine Brammeier. Biermann has been a nurse at the hospital for 15 years and worked in both the Cardiac Rehab and Cardiology Clinic. She says she resigned from the Rehab position and would stay on as Dr. Phillip Appril’s nurse in the Clinic. According to her, this was allowed by Chief Executive Officer Nancy Newby. She was told she would work with SSM to work with Dr. Appril. She reports that the day after the Board Meeting, she was told by a non-employee that she was no longer an employee of the hospital and would need an SSM Identification to be allowed back into work at WCH. After meeting with several groups on what to do, including the Human Rights Commission, she was told to come to the Board and declare that she did not resign from both positions, just from the Cardiac Rehab, as she had issues with her supervisor, but not Dr. Appril. She says she has never been contacted by anyone at the hospital that she has been fired and wants to know what the status is in a timely manner, so she can get on with her life. There were several citizens that spoke up for Biermann. Another employee let go within the last month is Registered Nurse Elaine Brammeier. She made claims that she believed she was fired for bullying and harassing other employees and patients, as well as working over too much. She asks for the names of those who made these claims to find the truth, as well as if other employees have worked over their schedule and if so, why are they still employed. Brammeier also claims this is all related to being an older employee. In fact, she says she feels like she was bullied. There were some citizens that spoke on her behalf as well. There were several people that spoke about some Board members that have been on the Board too long and if they can’t get along with others, they should step down. There were also many comments on employee Megan Stanley, who is Newby’s daughter and that they believe there is nepotism involved in Stanley’s promotions. Other complaints were of Stanley’s ability to get away with rules not applying to her and that employees felt afraid to speak up about it, due to her connections. The Board met in closed session afterwards to discuss these issues on whether there is merit for the two women to remain employees and other personnel issues. Newby was in meetings all day and was unavailable for comment.
