The Washington Free Beacon is reporting that a “secret, progressive Google group” calling itself “Gamechanger Salon,” comprised of over 1,000 liberal activists, has been discovered by MediaTrackers.org The group, which includes journalists from major news networks and liberal leaders from across the country, reveals that emails sent between members are enough to show southerners exactly how some liberals think about them. While discussing a Salon piece entitled “The South is holding America hostage,” one contributor took the conversation to a whole new level by not only validating the Salon article, but by saying the South should take the plunge and secede from the U.S. Why? Prepare yourself. via Washington Free Beacon: “For more than 100 years, the South has been dumbing down national politics, tilting the country in a conservative direction, supporting militarism, all while demanding huge financial subsidies from blue states.” “It would be 100% fine with me if the South was a separate nation, pursuing its own priorities and destiny.” The writer is Guy Saperstein. He’s a major Democratic donor, a part-owner of the Oakland Athletics baseball team, a former President of the environmental organization The Sierra Club, and founder of The Patriotic Millionaires, a group of mega-wealthy Americans who want Congress to raise taxes, according to Media Trackers. When Media Trackers contacted Saperstein via email to clarify his statements, the mega-donor didn’t back down – in fact, he went even further. Asked about the consequences for African Americans if secession became a reality, he said “secession would be a gradual process, giving any blacks who felt threatened time to relocate.” According to Saperstein, civil rights victories “would not be lost for any blacks willing to relocate and the ones who relocated would do much better in their new environments.” One member of the thread reportedly took great offense to Saperstein’s comments, calling them effectively sedition and a “lunatic” thing to say. While we can hope that this is not a widespread feeling among the liberal leaders of America, this certainly causes some alarm. If one man is willing to put his name on this kind of opinion, he must feel strongly enough to share it - and confident enough that he’s not alone in his thoughts.
