The Washington Policy Center and other charter advocates are steaming over the fact that only one school district applied to become an authorizer. These are the same people who claim that school districts are wasteful. They claim schools could spend their money more wisely. What can be wiser than not spending money, especially on developing plans to authorize a charter school that a school district will have no control over? Yet education critics, who complain endlessly that school districts are wasteful, now complain that school districts are not spending money for costs that can be borne by the State Charter Commission.
