The Washington State Board of Health is seeking a consumer member and would like to present the opportunity to AAUW members. Their announcement follows: The Washington State Board of Health is seeking diverse applicants to fill an upcoming board vacancy. The position will represent consumers of health care in Washington state. As a consumer representative the ideal candidate would be someone with a passion for public health. The Board serves the citizens of Washington by working to understand and prevent disease across the entire population. Established in 1889 by the State Constitution, the Board of Health provides a public forum for the development of public health policy in Washington. The Board monitors the health of the people who live in Washington, and develops policies that prevent disease, and promote and protect the publics health. It recommends strategies and health goals to the Legislature and Governor and regulates a number of health activities. The Board meets 6-8 times a year, with the occasional special meeting. Board members may also participate on a subcommittee with less frequent meetings.
