The Way It Was Not.... By Will Travis Mates, I remember standing and cheering at a football game in 1956/57 when it was announced that Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company was moving here. Thereafter came Yankees. Murray pretty much ran the County thereafter for so long as the Hannahs owned it, and Robert Fletcher ran it. It was when the Southerners took charge that things began to go downhill. Just say Nej In the beginning, it was commonplace to have ones finger smashed off if one ran a press at Murray. Some I know Their fingers mashed off intentionally. What -have -you. Lawrence County suffered a wildcat strike, election disputes, rotten Workmens Compensation claims, wrongful discharges, stupid merchandising and manufacturing, plus excessive executive salaries until Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company no longer exists. Good riddance. However, let us condemn and thereafter purchase the companies real estate. Murray has no use for it no more. That property has gas, electricity, sewage, parking, buildings, rest rooms, cafeterias, all that is needed for a new company. Thus, lets buy it. Lets find a new company. Advertise. If you know a better way. Will Travis Written after Murray Ohio went bankrupt.
