The Weld County Flood Relief fund reached a milestone this week with donations totaling over $1 million. Thanks to all of the generous people who are helping our neighbors here in Weld County pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives. WELD COUNTY FLOOD RELIEF FUND REACHES $1 MILLION Greeley, CO – On September 14th, the Community Foundation Serving Greeley and Weld County and the United Way of Weld County established a long-term recovery fund to help victims in Weld County. The caring power of our communities is evident by the quick success of the fund. The Weld County Flood Relief Fund has been growing steadily since formed last month and has reached a milestone. With the generosity of companies such as EnCana, which recently contributed $150,000, the Weld County Flood Relief Fund has surpassed the $1 million mark. Several companies have stepped up to support the communities where they live and do business. Just prior to the fund reaching $1 million, United Way and the Community Foundation announced that the distribution of funds began. The fund distribution committee has scheduled weekly meetings to review applications and the first round of checks was distributed last week. With another round of allocations this week, the total distribution is up to $244,152 committed to 41 households affected by the floods. “There are applications still coming in and the need is already greater than funds available” said Lyle SmithGraybeal, Vice President of Community Impact for United Way of Weld County. “Applicant requests that would meet the requirements currently exceed $1.8 million, and we estimate by the number of homes destroyed that at least $3 million would be needed to cover the basic needs of these families” he added. Any flood victims residing in Weld County may apply. Applicants must be able to prove that they lived in an area affected by flooding, and that damage occurred to their property. Documents that could be used to prove this include an insurance adjuster’s report, a contractor bid for repairs, a utility bill showing address, a picture of the damage, receipts for repair expenses, and/or a copy of a vehicle registration. The minimum amount to be awarded is $100, and there is no set maximum. The fund is reserved for basic needs, such as housing assistance, replacing basic furniture, and assistance with purchasing a replacement automobile. Applications may be mailed or hand delivered to the UWWC office, the Community Foundation office or the Carbon Valley Help Center, at the addresses below. Applications will be available at Weld Project Connect on Friday, October 18, between noon and 4:30pm at Island Grove Park in Greeley. Applications are also available online at UnitedWay-Weld.org/2013flood or cfsgwc.org as well as at United Way, The Community Foundation and the Carbon Valley Help Center. To make a contribution to the Weld County Flood Relief Fund, please call either organization during business hours or go online to make a donation at any time.
