The Wells Generator Wave Energy Converter ( TeK-THink) If we - TopicsExpress

The Wells Generator Wave Energy Converter ( TeK-THink) If we were to fully exploit the power of the ocean we could satisfy over 40% of the world’s demand for power. Think about this as this equals the output of 700 to 800 nuclear power stations. I cannot imagine what the world would be like with 800 more nuclear power stations. Where would we get the nuclear fuel from? Where would we store the spent radioactive fuel for several hundreds of thousands of years that would be required to cool off the material? This wave energy device concept from Voith is as ingenious as it is simple. It is a shore based concrete bunker like installation that allows water to enter a chamber from a submerged opening as the waves move up and down. The water in the chamber rises and falls with the waves pushing a column of air trapped above the water level through a wells turbine generator that makes clean electricity. It is a feature of the wells turbine that it turns in the same direction regardless of weather the air is moving forward or backward through the turbine vanes.
