The Wide Road begins with my character, standing at the crossroads - TopicsExpress

The Wide Road begins with my character, standing at the crossroads of life where he must make a decision that will determine his eternal destiny. Joel is confronted with the narrow way that leads to life and beckons to him through the voice of the Good Shepherd to come follow the way everlasting. Being enticed by his carnal nature to the wide road that leads to the pleasures of this life, Joel decides instead to follow his own self seeking ways, that leave him searching endlessly for something to fill his empty heart. On his journey down the wide road, Joel, has many different adventures that reveal to him the futility of being self –serving; living only to please himself, without hope and without God in this world. The characters in this story that Joel meets down the wide road are sometimes proverbial in nature and at other times they are personifications of Biblical instruction. Throughout his journey, Joel encounters the Good Shepherd, the wooing of the Spirit, the messengers of the gospel and Wisdom who all try to bring the traveler of the wide road to the knowledge of the truth of the saving grace of God through the Savior Jesus Christ. Each chapter in my story relays a spiritual analogy, which teaches a moral and spiritual lesson to the reader concerning the battle between the flesh and the Spirit that takes place in the unsaved. Joel’s carnal nature, which resists his moral conscience, are also in a battle over Joel’s spiritual state. This struggle I have personified as characters in the story which are intended to reveal to the reader the enmity between these two enemies. After facing many perils and hardships, Joel, who has continued to ignore the voice of the Good Shepherd calling him, finally arrives at the end of his journey, where at last he stands before the entrance to life at the door of Hope. It is there that Joel meets Grace with the key of Faith to open the door of his heart that will lead him to salvation. The Wide Road is an allegory of how the Good Shepherd searches for his lost sheep and by his Spirit draws the lost one to him. This process of drawing is by God’s grace that reveals our need for salvation. Foolishly, we all have tried to fill our lonely hearts with all kinds of the pleasures of this life, and it is not until the Lord comes into our heart that we are miraculously transformed. We then become truly satisfied by being just in him. On the Narrow Road, (part 2 that is in process) Joel must by the power of the Holy Spirit, work out his salvation. Joel learns through his life experiences, that the trials of life serve to teach the Christian the value of spiritual treasures; having a far more eternal weight of glory than the pleasures of this life. Joel, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, must fight the good fight of faith by resisting the temptations of the powers of darkness. He must also, be watchful unto prayer, keep his head in all things, grow in the knowledge of God and walk in the Spirit- so that he does not fulfill the lusts of his flesh. The adventures that Joel has on the Narrow Road serve to illustrate the Christian walk of faith. Blessings in Jesus! “The Wide Road. amazon/The-Wide-Road-Kim-Balogh/dp/1502881799
