The Will of God Romans 12:2 … “…do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 1:24 … “Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts.” The Bible instructs us to pray according to God’s will, which means that if you ask God for something that the Bible already prohibits, your prayer will go unheard and unanswered. Today we will define two different categories of God’s will: 1) his perfect will, and 2) his permissive will. God’s PERFECT will is reflected in his plans for creation (which includes you). God planned for you to: be conceived and born. He planned for you to trust him, accept Christ’s death as payment for your sins, honor him with your life, and serve him until you die. However, God does not force you to follow or honor him; he leaves the decision (and the consequences) up to you. In God’s PERMISSIVE will, he will occasionally allow you to face trials and hardships to get your attention and draw you closer to him. Stress and grief are designed to make you turn to him. Not all illness is the result of sin, but if you are living out of the perfect will of God, he might allow sickness to compel you to seek him. (The next time you are ill, take your medicine and ask God to reveal attitudes and behaviors in your life that need to change. Both steps may be needed to restore your health.) God may use criticisms by your boss to point out that you have grown complacent or lazy. Instead of rushing to anger, feeling humiliated, and asking God to remove your boss, ask God to show you how you need to change. If your boss is the problem, God can take care of that. God often uses people we love, respect, admire, and work for, to call attention to our errors. A humble person will listen and prayerfully consider their words, but a prideful person will immediately reject them. It is not easy, but it is necessary. You may face something today that is either God’s perfect will or his permissive will. You may not like it, but either way, God will guide you to joy and peace if you submit to him. A difficulty is your opportunity to address sin in your life, to learn and mature, or simply to become a better person. Respond properly. God really is in control despite your feelings.
