The Winter Solstice is upon us, marking the shortest day of the year, the official arrival of winter and on a happier note, the eventual return of the sun! This Sunday, December 21st, I invite you to join me in celebrating. In Yoga, the solstices are often celebrated with 108 Sun Salutations. The significance of 108 has long been debated amongst Buddhist and Hindu scholars...feel free to google the importance in this number. No matter the meaning, a moving meditation, allows you to reflect on the meaning of lightness and dark, be it the light within you, the light found in all beings or the literal light offered from the sun. A devotion to 108 Sun Salutations is serious business. That’s 108 Chaturanga Dandasanas – a physical challenge in its own right. My goal is to COLLECTIVELY get to 108 sun salutations by days end. If you are not familiar with this flow (which there are many, many varieties) I have attached a video, and feel free to make it your own by changing up the postures or adding to it. I need your help. Please leave the number of sun salutations you practiced under comments and Ill do a grand total at the end of Sunday. Even if you do not currently practice yoga, this is a great time of year to try something new. We can bring back this day light together. ;)
