The Wolverine Re-Review! I say re-review because I already - TopicsExpress

The Wolverine Re-Review! I say re-review because I already reviewed this movie less than a year ago. Since I first saw it I can honestly say that Ive grown to like it even more. I really liked how Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman is put in a different environment than hes used to. So years pass by after the events of X3 and Wolverine is now a hermit who has nightmares of his past and still is haunted by Jean Grey played by Famke Janssen. Wolverine is in Japan throughout most of the movie where he needs to protect the granddaughter of the man he saved in WWII. The girl is named Mariko played by Tao Okamoto and the Yakuza have been hired to kill her for her dying grandfathers company. One thing that made the movie very interesting is how Wolverine is poisoned and he cannot heal like before making him vulnerable and making his mission more of a challenge. He is poisoned by the Viper played by Svetlana Khodchenkova who almost similar to Poison Ivy minus the camp. One character that really stands out for me was Yukio played by Rila Fukushima. She is a mutant that can that see peoples death in her mind. She teams up with Wolverine to try to protect Mariko. Fukushima & Jackman have really good chemistry together. Now I remember last year that I said Wolverine & Mariko didnt have chemistry together. Seeing the movie a few more times I have to say their chemistry together grew on me. Another aspect about the film I really enjoyed was the use of brutality. This is the most violent X-Men film to date. Even with the PG-13 rating I felt it pushed it but in a good way. Jackman really gets to show off his intensity and rage in the movie and I think its maybe his best performance as Wolverine. The rest of the characters are alright. Its not the actors fault its just that there not writing in a way that feels natural. Even the character of Yashida played by Haruhiko Yamanouchi, started off being an interesting character who wished for Wolverines immortality in exchange for saving his life but I felt the ending made him into a generic villain. Overall I enjoyed the movie. The performances from the main actors are very good especially Hugh Jackman. The action and fighting scenes for the most part are well done. I did like how the story unfolded despite some flaws here or there. I liked how Wolverine finally moves on from Jean Grey even though she popped up one too many times in the film. The setting in Japan was a great change of location. The music by Marco Beltrami is alright but its really forgettable. James Mangold as director did a really good job and really did Wolverine justice in a solo film. A huge upgrade over the last Wolverine solo film. So what does the future hold for Wolverine? *wink, wink*
