The Womans movement in Liberia/World has a pioneer in C.Leona Chesson who happens to be my mother celebrating her 86th birthday today. She hosted and organized the very Ist. woman World Conference held at Ducor Palace in Liberia in the middle 60s and as a kid I worked in the now ancient mimeograph dpt. and read up(because I was bored) and was shocked to see the injustices done woman especially in Liberia where woman had to get permission from their husbands to leave the country and even drive...and my mother was a Lawyer . Her service to Liberia as Chief Legal Council to Lamco (the largest Iron Ore Co. in the World at the time),Assistant Secretary of Labor under Tubman, Assistant Minister of Justice and Assistant Minister Foreign Affairs under Tolbert in a male dominated society speaks volumes of not only her ability(as person) but fortitude and is an example to Liberian woman every where. There would be no Ellen were it not for C.Leona. Happy Birthday Mummy. Luv ya
