The Word In Hymns (Mon, 25/08/2014). Not My Care MHB 647 (by Richard Baxter) ¶ 1. LORD, it belongs not to my care Whether I die or live, To love and serve Thee is my share, And this Thy grace must give. I was in Winneba last Saturday and had to attend a burial service in my church. The bodies of three people were burried from my church alone. One was a 37 year old gentleman who worked in the laboratories of Tema Oil Refinery. One was a 94 year old woman who had elasped all her working years. And the last person being a mid-fifty year old man who had almost reached his retirement age. As if that were not enough, at the grave yard, I realised we werent the only church bringing bodies for commital. 26 bodies were supposed to be burried that day according to the cemetary guard. It is not the total number of bodies to be burried in Central Region that was 26, it is that for the Winneba township alone, 26!!!! My brothers and sisters, it is not their death that has delighted me so much to write this article. I only seek to confirm the words of Richard Baxter in the first two lines of the hymn. LORD, whether I die or I live, it is not mine to decide, it is not my choice, it is not my burden nor my care. Who among the 26 people decided his/her death? The 37 year old gentleman left behind 5 children and the saddest thing is, he never saw his last two children who were twins. You think he decided to die? Richard says, our share on earth is not to inquire our date of death from mallams and soothesayers but to love and serve the LORD. It doesnt matter the number of years you spend on earth, what matters is what you do with those years. I have decided to follow Richards choice, Ill love and serve the LORD and I agree it is only the grace of God that can enable me to do that. I pray to God to grant me the grace to eschew evil, forsake the world and it pleasures and serve and love Him with my all in all. I would be very happy if you also make this decision. Go down on your knees and pray for that grace. Onua, LIFE is SHORT, live it unto God. Think about this.
