The Word of God is filled with scriptures talking about pride and the danger of it. Proverbs 16:18 states: Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Psalm 10:4, The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. and finally Proverbs 8:13, The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. These are just 3 scriptures that deal with pride, but the Word of God is very straight-forward on the Spirit of Pride. It is very easy to discern someone that has pride, they know everything about anything. You cant tell them anything, because they already know it. The most powerful example of pride is Satan, himself. Reading in Isaiah 14:12-14, How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. At one time, Satan was a beautiful created being, but because he wanted to take what belonged to God, He was cast out of Heaven, with 1/3 of the angels, that chose to follow him. Lucifer/Satan allowed pride to take over in his life. I have seen pride in my own life, when I have not submitted my will to Gods, thinking I could handle a situation so much better than He could. The Spirit of Pride can cost you everything, Satan wants us to think we dont need the Lord in our lives. That we dont need to pray, read our Word, study, and fast, they we are very capable without the Lord. Well, for me, I know that I cannot. When I start thinking more highly of myself than I ought, I get before the Lord, commanding the Spirit of Pride that wants to sit on my shoulder, telling me a better way, than Gods Way, to leave. Pride can destroy friendships, families, marriages, and even churches. In Proverbs 6:16-19, the Bible tells us: These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. So, we need to be humble in all things for the Lord, not allowing the Spirit of Pride, to rise up in our lives. Let us be teachable, so that God can and will use us...
