The YMCA of Greater Boston is looking for a part-time after school educator for the BTU School, who is committed to providing engaging activities for students in grades kindergarten through six. YMCA of Greater Boston After School Group Leader Position: Group Leader Reports to: Site Director Part-Time: School Year, 2:00pm-5:45 pm, $11-$13/hour General Function The Group Leader is a part-time after school educator who is committed to providing engaging activities for students in grades kindergarten through six. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about extending students’ learning beyond the regular school hours through enriching hands on activities. The ideal candidate is creative, energetic and collaborative. S/he is willing to share personal talents to lead small group activities ie. sports, dancing, singing, sewing, visual arts, gardening, etc. The group leader should be excited to become a member of the school community and help the students have a seamless transition to a fun-filled afternoon. Under the direction of the Site Director, the Group Leader plans and implements classroom curriculum, communicates information to families, maintains compliance with EEC regulations, and provides a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment. Age-appropriate activities should provide for growth in skills, self-awareness, group relations, and character development and more. Specific Responsibilities * Keep safety of children as a first priority * Assist students with homework * Use positive methods of child guidance * Supervise children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly * Work to meet daily duties/needs of the program, and to be responsible for making sure that materials are ready for use and put away at the end of the day * Develop and implement curriculum that reinforces lessons learned during the school day * Greet parents and update them on children’s progress * As appropriate, participate in events based within the school * Attend all staff meetings, training sessions, and program special events * Participate in at least twenty hours of professional development per year * Abide by the established EEC/YMCA policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines and asks when in doubt * Perform other duties as required by supervisor (remains flexible) Qualifications: * High school diploma required, some college preferred * At least nine months experience working with School Age children. * Previous experience providing classes, programs, activities for youth * Knowledge of youth development principles * Must possess effective leadership and group management skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Must be committed to the philosophy and goals of the school and YMCA.
