The Yale Police said in a statement, that the incident Saturday was in response to reports from students of a suspected burglar who they said had just entered their rooms under false pretenses, pretending to be looking for someone. It seems that the suspect in fact never stole anything, but was guilty of being a tall, African-American, college-aged student wearing a black jacket and a red and white hat. He may, very well, have just been a student looking for someone – as he claimed. But the actual suspect was located on an adjacent campus. He was thereafter arrested, even though it is unclear that he stole anything. Campus police would not directly answer our question about whether or not that suspect had stolen anything. Instead, they simply repeated that he will be charged with felony burglaries. Their unwillingness to answer whether the students who reported him had anything stolen seemed odd to say the very least.
