The Youth and Environmental Development Association (YEDA), is a registered non-partisan, non-governmental, not-for-profit-making youth serving organization founded in 1995. YEDA is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAT/IT/No 17301) in 2004 and with Kano State (RYC/1700/20/076) since 1999. It has a board of trustee, an advisory board, a management board and a specialist technical committee. A 10- member planning and implementation team oversees the implementation of its activities. The structure of the organization comprises of a Board of Trustees, Advisory Board Members, and Management board members for project planning and implementation supported by a Specialist Technical Committee whose members serve as volunteers or consultants. The management consist of Team leader, Senior Program Officer, Administrative officer, Program officer, Accountant, Assistant Accountant, M&E Officer, 2 Coordinators for Vocational Centers & Early Childhood Development Center (ECD), 4 Vocational Centers Instructors, 3 Facilitators and 2 Nannies at ECD Center, 1 Counselor at Youth Friendly Center, 1 security, 1 cleaner and 24 Volunteers, making a total of 19 Staff and 24 volunteers. YEDA has been an implementing partner to many INGOs including Pathfinder International, JHU/CCP-Packard, CEDPA/PACE, UNEAD/EU, VSO/EU, FHI/IMPACT, FHI/GHAIN, COMPASS/USAID, CRD/Marc Arthur Foundation, dRPC/Van leer Foundation and SFH/USAID, OTI/USAID, DTA/British Council/World Bank, TMG/EU/UN, CDD/CRD, YEDA is also an implementing partner with National Commission for Refugees (NCFR) in relief and humanitarian services especially access to RH services in conflict situations. YEDA is a member of many networks including Civil Society for HIV/AIDs in Nigeria (CISHAN), Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA), Coalition of Budget Transparency Advocate in Kano (COBTAK), National Anti-corruption Coalition (ICPC/NACC), Zero Corruption Coalition, Kano Network of NGOs (KANET), National Youth Council of Nigeria, Network for Local Government Election and served as leading Organization of the listen-up radio program on RH/FP in Kano by the JHU/CCP. Vision: A healthy, lovely, peaceful and sustainable community Mission: To initiate, improve and sustain development of the youth and the environment through participatory empowerment and action-oriented research Aims; • To increase peace, unity, health, positive moral values and patriotism within and among youth/ communities. • To develop and implement framework for qualitative education, self-reliance, informed choices and professionalism within and among youth/communities. • Promoting ecosystem capable of supporting healthy and more meaningful life within and among youth/communities. General Objectives: • Encouraging community participation through mobilization, collaboration and networking, • Conducting action oriented-research on issues affecting youth and environment with the aim of developing framework, to initiate or improve positive development • Strategic prevention, management and social services on HIV/AIDS/STIs, substance abuse and other social vices among youth and community • Providing career guidance, information and educational services • Encourage self employment through vocational/income generation skills training and access to micro credit or micro enterprises • Conducting basic literacy/training for disadvantaged youth • Empower youth on opportunity utilization. • To generate funds for implementation of all approved programs and administrative matters through income generation activities. Values: participation, sustainability, solidarity with youth, research, transparency & accountability and positive behavior change.
