The ability of DNA molecules to stop, replicate, transmit and decode - TopicsExpress

The ability of DNA molecules to stop, replicate, transmit and decode information is the basis of genetic function, but equaly important is d capacity of DNA to make mistakes. Gene Mutation is defined as an alteration in DNA sequence. They are d source of genetic changes that can lead to cell death, genetic diseases such as cancer, sickle cell anemia, down syndrom etc. The extent to which a mutation changes the xteristics of an organism depend on where d Mutation occurs and d degree to which d mutation alters d function of the gene product. Gene Mutation can be spontaneous (changes in d nucleotide of the gene that appears to have no known cause and are generally assumed to be accidental) and can be induced(mutations that result from d influence of extraneous factors ,of either natural or artificial agents e.g radiation from cosmic and minerals resources and ultraviolet radiation from d sun) .
