The absurd treatment meted out to Ali Nadeem sir by the AMU administration reminds me of what Romila Thapar had commented on the harassment of Prof Irfan Habib by the AMU administration in 1982 when he commented in public on the improper functioning of the university. She commented on the issue, An absolute travesty of the very principles on which a university functions and a gross attack on the right of an academic to comment in public on the functioning of his institution
