The accident near the turn off from Indian Ocean Drive to Lancelin - TopicsExpress

The accident near the turn off from Indian Ocean Drive to Lancelin today was attended by the police, fire brigade and ambulance volunteers as well as members of the public. The male driver in his 20s said he fell asleep at the wheel and by the time his passengers shouted to wake him it was too late to avoid a light pole which hit impacted the passenger side of the ute. A female in her 20s was trapped in the back passenger side seat and bore the brunt of the impact and was clearly sporting a broken leg. It was fortunate that a British paramedic was one of the first on the scene. He was assisted by a handful of other passers-by, most of whom stayed for the 2-hour rescue. The road was closed for a good hour when the RAC rescue helicopter landed. Firefighters from Yanchep Fire Brigade also attended. The driver and the male passenger were taken by ambulance from the scene as a precautionary measure. When these events occur it is marvelous to watch people from all walks of life focus on the task at hand. That young woman was exceedingly well cared for today, all of us on hand were pleased to assist.
