The accident rate of STUs per one lakh km are as under: BMTC (0.07) Bengaluru, Jan 16, 2015 The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Thursday received the ‘Transport Minister’s Trophy and Cash Award for STU’ for Lowest Accident Record (Road Safety Awards) for 2013-14 from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The award was conferred on the BMTC at the conference on “Status of Road Safety and safe mobility initiatives in India” (26th National Road Safety Week Conference) held at India International Center, New Delhi. The BMTC has set up an exclusive Drivers’ Training Centre at Vaddarahalli in the City to train drivers in adopting the best driving skills. It has also installed simulation at the training institute to impart training on a real road condition to drivers, besides carrying out the joint operation with the traffic police to monitor traffic congestion in junction points and major circles and working out to curb rash and negligent and drink-driving. Drivers, conductors and mechanical staff are shown documentary films depicting the best driving practices, effect of bad driving etc at Training Centre of BMTC. The rigorous pre-induction training programmes are also organised for the newly recruited drivers before they are put on route operation. The accident rate was 0.10 (per 1 lakh km) during the year 2011-12 and it has been reduced to 0.07 in 2013-14. Similarly, the breakdowns reported during 2012-13 was 0.08 (for ten thousand km) and it came down to 0.07 in 2013-14. The efforts of the BMTC have brought down the accident rate (per one lakh km of operation) to 0.08. The accident rate of STUs per one lakh km are as under: BMTC (0.07), BEST, Mumbai (0.29), MTC, Chennai (0.54), CSTC, Kolkata (0.39), AMTS, Ahmedabad (0.19) and DTC, New Delhi (0.08).
