The accompanying photos show the great job museum volunteers Ralph Medina and Tom Grove did in recreating the wooden box for one of our RM-21 remote control units. These boxes are hard to find in any condition, and Ralph and Tom did an outstanding job duplicating the boxs layout, especially the metal hardware. Tom fabricated the handle from scratch to match the original. -- The RM-21 works with the early versions of the SCR 543 radio set that was used throughout the Los Angeles area during WWII. The museum is currently working on several different SCR 543 radios. We hope to have all of them in operational condition; the first being in the new communications room exhibit. The RM-21s will be used with mobile sets we plan to use for public displays and events.
