The accomplishments of LaSalle-Peru Township High School’s state-caliber track athletes will be celebrated tonight. The Cavalier track athletes will be paraded through the community tonight with police and fire department escorts when they return from the state competition. They are expected to be back in the Illinois Valley around 7:30 p.m. The parade route will begin in Oglesby off the Interstate 39 exit near Love’s Travel Stop. The route will then continue through downtown Oglesby on Walnut Street and past Lehigh Park to Route 71 when the parade will turn west through Jonesville and into LaSalle and through downtown LaSalle and onto U.S. 6 and into Peru. The route will continue through downtown Peru and turn north at Peoria Street and then east onto Shooting Park Road. The parade will finally turn south onto Creve Coeur Street in LaSalle and end at LP High School. Recently graduated LP senior Logan Zeman is one of only a few Cavalier student-athletes to become a state champion. Today he claimed the top-spot in the high jump competition at the IHSA Class 2A State Boys Track Finals with a jump of 6’8”. Brett Kowalczyk, an LP junior, took 8th place in the shot put event at the state competition. A pair of LP’s girls track athletes also made an impressive showing at the state level. Lesly Rocha and Megan Krolak finished 7th and 8th, respectively in the 3200m in the girls track state finals last week. Both of them broke the previous school record by nine seconds. Rocha also placed 5th in the 1600m race, breaking the school record by seven seconds.
