The ad hominem is the most common form of logical fallacy. It is a logical fallacy because it ignores the point being debated to attack the person making the point. Ad hominem (Latin) means “against the man”. For example; someone says we never landed on the moon, and someone responds, youre an idiot who never finished high school. The response does nothing to refute the assertion that we never landed on the moon. -- In the ancient world, rhetoric was something of a spectator sport. Articulate men would argue (debate) in a public forum, and crowds would listen and cheer according to the merits of their logical reasoning. There were RULES to this, and what we now refer to as logical fallacies were like wrestling holds that were barred. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies
