The addition of Megan Davis Campbell to the GLOW lineup reminded me of the great Jo Ann Campbell. One of the great gal singers of Rock & Roll era, Jo Ann never got that one big monster hit but those of us in the music biz back then knew her work very well. Here she is with my old friend Joey Dee, backed by the Starlighters, (The Peppermint Twist), in an early music video filmed at the Peppermint Lounge in about 1961. The Starlighters lineup at one time or another contained Eddie Brigati, Gene Cornish, and Felix Cavaliere, (3 of the 4 of fellows who would later become the Young Rascals), movie star Joe Pesci on guitar, Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers, and Jimi Hendrix, (then known as Jimmy James). My old friend Joey, who is about 6 months or so older than I am, looks like he is about 15 years old here. He is actually 20. Jo Ann is 23 in this video. She was in a couple of Rock & Roll movies and later married very successful record producer and songwriter Troy Seals and left the business altogether in about 1965.
