The adjustments that were made to Jessicas wheelchair on Tuesday - TopicsExpress

The adjustments that were made to Jessicas wheelchair on Tuesday seem to be helping with her posture and she is sitting so much better. Just correcting the posture with better seating is going to help with some of the other problems she has been having. Unfortunately everything comes with a trade off. When she is in her chair for just a few hours her back starts to hurt so badly that she can no longer sit and we have to get her out and lay her down which is fine if we are home. We are thinking that this is because now that she is in better alignment and is using different muscles hopefully after a few days the muscles will get use to the new position and her back will not hurt anymore and that she will be able to make it through her school day...... We also saw her doctor and she agrees that Jessica does need of a boost of intense therapy. Here is problem Dupont is not really accepting Jessicas secondary insurance because apparently NJ does not want to pay for out of state services and the only rehab in NJ that is close to us who offers day hospital no longer offers it. Her doctor is going to work on it and hopefully either Jessicas primary will cover the cost or Jessica will fall into a loop hole and Dupont will allow Jessica to continue to use her secondary.... .It is just so unfair that in the country that we live in people are not able the get the care/things they need to improve the quality of their life. There is still so much discrimination and ignorance when it comes taking care of those with special needs.....Brain injuries are one of the least funded. I am keeping my fingers crossed that all will work out for Jessica that she will get the services she needs and that her motivation will come back and we will start to once again see functional progress.....We thank you all for following our journey and for being a Jessica believer. Have a great weekend.
