The adventure continues. Like chain links through the derailleur these are the days of our lives. Under threat of catastrophic weather events we fielded a surprisingly large team to ride into the pub for dinner. By some miracle we found a window of opportunity and made the most of it. Conditions were coolish but without rain. The slight tail wind abated to zero by the time we got to the carrot sticks. As I rode around a corner near Oak Park I was confronted by a scene of carnage as bodies and bikes were flung into the air over a fallen tree. The sound of breaking bones however disappeared quickly as we found a way around the obstacle and again concentrated on the vegetarian fare that awaited us in Brunswick. The Roast Vegetable Calzone was a huge winner as was the Lamb Salad. The ride home was pleasant in the still conditions and I enjoyed the rich cacophony of sounds in the still night as riders called to each other against a back drop of bicycle bells. The temperature dropped down to 5ºC as we dropped back into the valley but went unnoticed due to our enthusiasm and physical exertion. This morning (Wed 6:00am), by necessity, as I eased into loose fitting undergarments I recalled in a lightning flash the prophetic utterance of Emilio "Beware the Spicy Bean Burger". Epilogue: We noticed coming home that the Upfield trains had stopped and were later informed by Kevin that someone had been hit by a train down further.
