The afternoon sessions saw the continued questioning of Witness Ek Hen by Defense Counsels for the Accused, Victor Koppe and Arthur Vercken. The Witness testified that, in her capacity as a member of the Women Combatants Unit, she never saw any combat or learned of policies towards captured Lon Nol Soldiers. Vercken challenged the Witness on her statements that only KS discussed traitors, while NC did not in a previous study session. The Chamber heard the audio testimony of the Witness’ interview to the OCIJ in 2008, which seemed to contradict the time frame of the Witness’ testimony. The Witness, however, clarified that the annual life view session she referred to was an annual event for workers where they heard one morning lecture and used the rest of the week for self criticism. In a show of effective time management, the Trial Chamber summoned the reserve witness Sum Alat 30 minutes before 16.00. The Witness was examined by Prosecutor William Smith. Thus far, it is established that Witness was one of the five representatives from Pursat Province summoned to Phnom Penh by the Department of Education in 1980. In this meeting the representatives of each province presented data on KR killings, which later was compiled into a book on genocide
