The agency is gravely concerned (about) the on-going cross-border transmission into neighboring countries as well as the potential for further international spread, according to Luis Sambo, MD, the WHOs regional director for Africa. The outbreak -- with 635 cases and 399 deaths -- is now the largest in terms of cases, mortality, and geographical spread, Sambo said in a statement. The WHO is calling an emergency meeting of the health ministers of the three affected countries -- Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia -- as well as eight other nations involved in battling the outbreak.
