The amphibious version of the Pz.Kpfw.38(t). The contract on design and production of the pontoons for the amount of 43,063 Reichsmarks was signed with the German company Kässbohrer on February 21, 1941; the same company designed flotation system for the Pz.Kpfw.II. The serial version of Pz.Kpfw.38(t) Ausf.E was to be equipped with a pontoon AP-1 assembled from several sections and attached to the sides of a tank with metal rods. Two propellers were driven by the tank engine. The tests were conducted in June 1942; but due to the invasion of Britain being cancelled), the contract for 100 pontoons was cancelled as well. The test version was sent to Kummersdorf on November 17, 1942. Source: Kalinin A. Panzerpampfwagen 38(t). Design and Production., Tactical Press, 2013.
