The ancient Irish Druids believed that on the eve of the fall - TopicsExpress

The ancient Irish Druids believed that on the eve of the fall equinox the veil that separates between the living and the dead was at its thinnest. On this night a celebration of those how had past on was held and this holiday was called, Sowen. On this night they believed that spirits would pass into the world of the living, so they would tell stories of remembrance about there loved ones past in hopes of them joining in the fun. This becoming the tradition of telling ghost stories. If you had enemies that had passed or you had killed someone they might come after you to harm you. So you would dress like someone else to confuse the sprits and keep them from finding you, or wear a mask so grotesque that it would scare the sprits away. To keep them from tricking or pranking you, one would leave food out of there front door in hopes that the sprits would just take these, treats, and pass you by, becoming trick or treating. This all later becoming the eve of all saints (the night before all saints day a catholic holiday celebrating all saints that didnt have there own holiday) called all hallows eve (hallowed, holly, meaning the saints, holly men. Be safe out there all, watch out for marauding sprits....
